Packing out a horse

How to Pack a Pack - November 2006 Pack Clinic.
Whether you are doing recreational packing like camping or packing equipment for trail work you need to do it the right way. The instructor was an experienced packer and BCHA member Don Cleveland from Montana. Attendees learned how to pack to ensure the security of the pack and most important of all, the safety of the riders and the horses.

Trail Design, Construction, and Maintenance Workshop

What does it take to build a trial??
In November 2003, BCHET sponsored a "hands-on" Trails Design, Construction, and Maintenance Workshop which was hosted by the Unicoi District of the Cherokee National Forest. The instructor was Dr. Gene W. Wood, Professor of Forest Wildlife Ecology, Extension Trails Specialist, Clemson University. Attending were volunteers from the hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian communities. The photographs in this album depict the cooperative spirit exhibited by all to promote multi-use trails in the northern portion of the Cherokee National Forest.

Back Country Horsemen Join Forces

Helping Out
Here's a great example of a project that benefited from the dedication of the members of Back Country Horsemen. These pictures were taken when Back Country Horsemen of North Carolina (BCHNC) and Back Country Horsemen of East Tennessee (BCHET) trail volunteers packed out the tools and equipment of the Appalachian Trail Council's (ATC) "Rocky Top" crew. They had spent almost two months on the AT near Davenport Gap doing trail reconstruction. We also packed their tools in on the first week in September.
